Premier League Headlines: Cole Palmer Set for The Blues Comeback; Gueye's Failed Red Card Appeal Mystery
First Story: Star Talent Palmer Fit for High-Stakes London Clash with The Gunners
The Blues head coach Enzo Maresca stated on Friday that Cole Palmer is ready to play for the team's important top-flight fixture against local opponents Arsenal.
The 23-year-old English international was out of action due to a broken toe sustained after an unfortunate incident.
“He is fit to begin and feature,” Maresca said. “Everyone is happy.”
This season, Palmer has featured in just four games across all competitions, finding the net on two occasions.
Since his arrival from Manchester City in 2023, he has recorded 45 strikes and 29 setups in 101 games for Chelsea.
“He is our top performer, we are delighted he is back, we need to provide him with time to be 100% fit,” Maresca added. “He has been brilliant historically and no doubt he is going to do great things for this club in the future.”
2. Everton Receive No Reason for Rejected Gueye Dismissal Challenge
The Merseyside club were unsuccessful in their appeal against Idrissa Gueye's red card for a fight with fellow player Michael Keane during the team's narrow win at Manchester United.
The 36-year-old Senegal midfielder was sent off just early on into the contest after hitting Keane during a argument over a misplaced pass.
Gueye immediately apologized, and the pair appeared making up afterwards in a mock social media video.
However, the challenge against the dismissal was turned down, and Gueye must complete a three-match suspension, making Everton short-staffed for their upcoming match against Newcastle.
“We have appealed it and our appeal was turned down,” coach the manager said. “No explanation was provided for the rejection but we did appeal it.”
Inquired about additional consequences from the incident, Moyes continued: “It was over immediately, it was done, that was it, we moved on rapidly and it was all sorted within the team environment.”
Third Story: Wissa Trains with Newcastle for Initial Session since Setback
Newcastle United's recent acquisition Yoane Wissa has practiced with his squad for the first time since suffering a knee problem shortly after his arrival from his former club in September.
Head coach Eddie Howe announced the development on the end of the week but withheld a possible comeback timeline for the player.
Newcastle brought in the forward for a significant fee to fill the void left by Alexander Isak, who moved to Liverpool for a record-breaking transfer fee.
Unfortunately, Wissa was injured while on international service before he could make his debut for Newcastle.
“He is doing well, he trained with us for the first time on Wednesday, so I was really pleased with how he looked,” Howe stated. “It was his initial competitive session with the team. Let’s see how he responds today.”
Howe continued: “We’ve got [a return date] in mind, but it’s probably best if I do not share it publicly. We don’t want to disappoint anyone. Of course, we want to include him as soon as possible.”
In other news, the defender will be sidelined for a four-week period with a hamstring injury.
Fourth Story: Liverpool' Poor Form ‘Irrelevant’, Insists Hammers Boss Nuno
West Ham United head coach Nuno Espírito Santo has claimed that the reigning champions' current slump “should not be a focus” as his team prepares to take on the ailing Premier League champions.
Arne Slot's team has suffered six losses in seven recent league games, dropping out of the top 10 of the table.
However, Nuno highlighted that there can be no room for overconfidence when the sides clash on Sunday at the their home ground.
“Liverpool are a quality side and in football, what counts is what you do on the day,” Nuno commented. “So what we expect is the champions of the Premier League, players that are skilled and able of doing great things, so we have to get ready.
“The history of the results before, the form of the teams, is largely insignificant. It is about the day. Knowing that we are going to face a very good team, that has players capable of doing amazing feats, so we have to be fully prepared, to challenge.”
West Ham will welcome back Lucas Paquetá after his suspension, while Crysencio Summerville and Dinos Mavropanos are stepping up their return from fitness issues.
Fifth Story: Morgan Gibbs-White Could Feature for Forest against Brighton
Nottingham Forest's manager Sean Dyche is hopeful that Morgan Gibbs-White will be fit for the team's at home fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion on the weekend.
The England player missed the midweek Europa League game against Malmö due to a back injury.
“Hopefully it’s settling down,” Dyche said as he prepared to face Fabian Hürzeler's side, who have taken seven points from their past three matches.
“It’s comparable to back pain, but a waking-up sort of injury, one where you just sleep funny or twist funny. So we’re not anticipating, at this stage anyway, that it’s too serious and it’s easing already. So we’re hopeful that it’ll be okay for the weekend.”
The defender was experiencing discomfort in his hamstring after the 3-0 European victory, but Dyche said the player “should be fine”.
However, the full-back (thigh injury), Douglas Luiz (thigh), the winger (hamstring), the striker (knee), and the defender (hip) are likely to miss out.
Sixth Story: Oliver Glasner: Conference League Defeat Will Not Set Back Palace
Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner feels that the setback of midweek's Conference League loss to the French side is a sign of how much progress the club has advanced in challenging on multiple fronts.
The domestic cup winners went ahead at Stade de la Meinau through Tyrick Mitchell's first-half goal but were pegged back by the opposition manager's team, who climbed to runner-up in the table.
Crystal Palace now return to domestic action with a at Selhurst Park fixture against Manchester United, and Glasner is confident his side can maintain their push for a top four place.
“Comparable to the recent setback at Goodison Park, it just feels that it was totally avoidable and it is our fault,” Glasner remarked. “Alternatively, we have to accept it. The effort was there but it is a game we shouldn’t definitely lose.”
Glasner confirmed that Borna Sosa would miss out for Sunday's match after he did not travel to France, but Will Hughes, who was substituted during the first half against Strasbourg, should be in the team selection.
